With his Chianti Classico Riserva Petri winemaker John Matta excelled in the rare of art of balancing the use of old and new oak, big and small barrels. Predominantly Sangiovese, the grape of Tuscany, this wine is elegant, well-structured and approachable.
Castello Vicchiomaggio has a long and illustrious history. Sitting atop a Tuscan hill, it dominates the entire Greve Valley. The castle is associated with many famous artists and writers. Leonardo da Vinci stayed at the castle while working on the Mona Lisa. The poet Francesco Redi was staying at Vicchiomaggio when he wrote his poem "Bacco in Toscana" -- Bacchus in Tuscany -- in 1685.
