Ripa delle Mandorle is an elegant Super Tuscan with Sangiovese as its predominant varietal. The presence of Cabernet in the blend makes this wine fit for ageing, but due to modern winemaking techniques it can also be drunk immediately. The Sangiovese is aged for about 12 months in large barrels (25-50HL) while the Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in small barrels (225L). Vineyards are located in the Chianti Classico region.
Castello Vicchiomaggio has a long and illustrious history. Sitting atop a Tuscan hill, it dominates the entire Greve Valley. The castle is associated with many famous artists and writers. Leonardo da Vinci stayed at the castle while working on the Mona Lisa. The poet Francesco Redi was staying at Vicchiomaggio when he wrote his poem "Bacco in Toscana" -- Bacchus in Tuscany -- in 1685.
