Deep ruby red in color, nose redolent of ripe red fruit and spice, round and supple on the palate with a very long balsamic finish.
Ideal with grilled sausages, roast meats and aged cheese.
This Chianti Classico Riserva "Gran Selezione" is aged in oak barrels for 18 months to two years. The color is deep, dense crimson. The bouquet is warm and full, with rich, ripe fruit. The palate is round and opulent, with elements of ripe red fruits underscored by spice, herbs and buttered toast. The texture is silky, and the acidity is perfectly balanced by firm and yet round tannins.
Castello Vicchiomaggio has a long and illustrious history. Sitting atop a Tuscan hill, it dominates the entire Greve Valley. The castle is associated with many famous artists and writers. Leonardo da Vinci stayed at the castle while working on the Mona Lisa. The poet Francesco Redi was staying at Vicchiomaggio when he wrote his poem "Bacco in Toscana" -- Bacchus in Tuscany -- in 1685.
